Some frequently used terms

Ad copy/script/talking points - text provided by the advertiser as a guide for their ad. 

Aircheck - a clip of an ad read used to verify that the spot has been recorded and gone live in a podcast episode as scheduled. Once uploaded, these clips are available for advertisers to listen to and provide feedback on when necessary.

Announcer-Read Ad - ads recorded by a voice actor, talent, or someone not associated with the podcast.

Call To Action (CTA) - the part of your ad copy directing listeners to act on an offer.

Dynamic - refers to the way an ad appears in a podcast episode. Rather than being baked into content, dynamic ads, or dynamically inserted ads, are inserted into episodes at the time of download (or stream) by podcast hosting sites, allowing them to run in specific episodes or throughout the catalog according to serving settings.

Embedded - a type of ad recorded separately but manually edited into an episode file using editing software.

Host-Read Ad - ads recorded by the podcast show host(s).

Live Read - a type of ad recorded live during the recording of an episode. 

Makegood - a free ad to compensate for a purchased spot that failed to meet contractual requirements.

Mid-roll - an ad that falls around the halfway point or between 40%-70% of a podcast episode. 

Personal Experience - a first-person endorsement of a product or service.

Pre-Produced Ad - ads recorded before or after the episode is recorded that hit on specific requirements the creator and advertiser have agreed upon.

Pre-roll - an ad that falls within the first 10 minutes of an episode.

Post-roll - an ad that falls within the last minutes 10 minutes, or the very end of an episode.

Promo code - a custom code in your CTA that gives listeners a special offer and helps advertisers track how many listeners take advantage. Ex: Use promo code IFIWEREYOU for $10 off your purchase.

Talent-Read or Producer-Read Ad - ads recorded by the podcast's producer or anyone else associated with the show or network (who is not the Host) that the audience is already familiar with.
